“Serving liquor is a legal act. Serving it responsibly is a professional skill.”

This is the complete AGLC ProServe certification course — the legal requirement for all liquor servers, bartenders, and managers in Alberta’s licensed establishments. Going far beyond the minimum regulatory knowledge, this course builds the professional skills, legal understanding, and practical judgment to serve responsibly in any situation — from a quiet wine bar to a packed Friday night.

What You Will Learn

  • Master the AGLC regulatory framework: all licence classes, ProServe requirements, and AGLC inspection protocols
  • Apply the science of alcohol metabolism to real service decisions — including why ‘one drink per hour’ is the only rule that works
  • Identify intoxication signs across early, moderate, and late stages — and intervene at the right moment
  • Execute the Challenge 25 ID verification protocol and handle suspicious or refused ID professionally
  • Refuse service using calm, non-confrontational language that de-escalates rather than inflames
  • Apply Stewart v. Pettie (1995 SCC) duty of care principles to protect yourself legally
  • Respond to alcohol poisoning emergencies with the correct recovery position and 9-1-1 protocol
  • Handle special situations: cannabis on premises, combined intoxication, work events, and medical emergencies

Who This Course Is For:  All liquor servers, bartenders, and managers in Alberta licensed establishments. Legally required by AGLC. Recommended for anyone hosting or planning events where alcohol is served.

Why It Matters:  Alberta courts have held servers personally liable for damages caused by patrons they served while visibly intoxicated. A $15 an hour serving shift does not cover the cost of a negligence judgment. This certification does.
