⚗️OSHA HAZCOM / GHS

Certificate Code: GS-HZC-  |  Duration: ~3 Hours  |  Modules: 12  |  Exam: 20 Questions  |  Pass Mark: 80%

“Every chemical in your workplace is talking to you. This course teaches you how to listen.”

The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) transformed chemical hazard communication into a universal language understood from Calgary to Osaka. Under OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200), every workplace that uses chemicals must ensure workers can read a label, find critical information in a Safety Data Sheet, and protect themselves correctly. This course makes that knowledge second nature.

What You Will Learn

  • Interpret all 9 GHS pictograms and understand the specific hazard each represents
  • Distinguish between DANGER and WARNING signal words and what they indicate about hazard severity
  • Locate the 8 critical sections of a 16-section SDS for immediate emergency decisions
  • Navigate Section 8 (Exposure Controls/PPE) to select correct PPE for any chemical
  • Create compliant workplace labels for secondary containers and in-process transfers
  • Understand all 4 routes of chemical exposure and how to control each one
  • Recognize the difference between acute and chronic health effects — and why chronic effects are often more dangerous
  • Build and maintain a compliant written HAZCOM program with SDS access for all workers on all shifts

Who This Course Is For:  Required for all workers who use, handle, store, or could be exposed to hazardous chemicals. Mandatory for employers under OSHA 1910.1200 and WHMIS 2015.

Why It Matters:  Wearing the wrong gloves because you didn’t read Section 8 of the SDS is how chemical burns happen. Reading a label that says DANGER and not understanding what the pictograms mean is how inhalation injuries happen. This course prevents both.
