Certificate Code: GS-CSTS-  |  Duration: ~3 Hours  |  Modules: 12  |  Exam: 20 Questions  |  Pass Mark: 80%

“Alberta’s construction industry demands more than a hard hat. It demands knowledge.”

CSTS 20 is the foundational safety certification for Alberta’s construction industry — recognized across the province by contractors, owners, and regulators as the baseline competency standard for construction site access. This comprehensive program covers the legal framework, hazard recognition, PPE, fall protection, excavation, electrical safety, and much more that every construction worker needs to work safely and legally.

What You Will Learn

  • Know your rights under the Alberta OHS Act — including the right to refuse dangerous work without reprisal
  • Apply the Hierarchy of Controls from elimination to PPE for every hazard type
  • Recognize and control the Fatal Four: falls, struck-by, caught-in/between, and electrocution
  • Conduct a Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA) before every task
  • Select, inspect, and correctly use site PPE including hard hats, high-vis, footwear, and respiratory protection
  • Understand excavation safety: soil classification, sloping ratios, and trench protection
  • Meet minimum safe approach distances for overhead power lines and know GFCI requirements
  • Navigate the Prime Contractor system and multi-employer worksite obligations

Who This Course Is For:  Required for access to most Alberta construction sites and industrial worksites. Essential for all trades workers, labourers, supervisors, and site visitors.

Why It Matters:  CSTS 20 is the most widely recognized construction safety credential in Alberta. Many job sites and employers require it before you can step on site — and it could mean the difference between getting the job and being turned away at the gate.
