H2S Awareness — Oil & Gas Safety Certification (Online Course)
Duration
Course breaks down:
- 6 modules of content — approximately 5–8 min each = ~45 min
- Quiz (15 questions) — approximately 15–20 min
- Total realistic time = 1 to 1.5 hours
Course Overview
This H2S Awareness online course is designed for workers in the Oil & Gas industry who may be exposed to Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) gas. Upon successful completion of the online examination with a minimum score of 80%, participants receive an industry-recognized certificate valid for 3 years.
This course meets the awareness training requirements outlined under both Canadian and United States occupational health and safety regulations.
Please note: This is an online awareness course. Site-specific and hands-on practical training (such as SCBA donning) must be completed separately through an in-person H2S Alive program.
Canadian Standards & Compliance
- Alberta OHS Code — Part 4: Requires a TWA of 10 ppm and STEL of 15 ppm. H2S awareness training is mandatory for all workers in Alberta’s Oil & Gas sector
- ENFORM / Energy Safety Canada: H2S awareness aligned with Canadian petroleum industry standards
- BC OHS Regulation Part 5.57: Hazardous substance exposure limits and awareness requirements
- Federal Canada Labour Code Part II: Workplace hazard awareness and worker right-to-know requirements
- WHMIS/GHS: Hazardous substance identification and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements
United States Standards & Compliance
- OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1000: Air contaminants — PEL ceiling of 20 ppm for H2S in general industry
- OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134: Respiratory protection awareness requirements
- OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146: Permit-required confined space awareness
- NIOSH REL: Recommended ceiling of 10 ppm; IDLH at 100 ppm
- ACGIH TLV: TWA of 1 ppm and STEL of 5 ppm
- API RP 55: Recommended practices for H2S safety in Oil & Gas operations
